Sean McCann, a senior at Park Ridge High School and a goalkeeper for the varsity soccer team, received a commendation from the Park Ridge Mayor and Council at its July 12 meeting. Last year, Sean began his ‘Saves for Gavin’ fund raising initiative to benefit the Scimeca family of River Vale. Sean is gathering monetary pledges for each save he makes during the upcoming soccer season. Gavin Scimeca, now a year old, was born with a rare genetic kidney disorder. Soon after his birth, fund raising efforts began to help the family with current and future medical costs. Gavin’s father is River Vale Police Officer Anthony Scimeca. Sean’s dad is Chief Michael McCann of the River Vale Police Department. The family is working with the Children’s Organ Transplant Organization a non-profit organization to raise money for Gavin.
