THE RECORD
When Stan Woods walks into the wrestling room at Emerson High School, there’s no denying that the 71-year-old grandfather is in his element.
His eyes widen like a little kid’s and a big smile breaks across his face as he exhorts Joey Fisco to finish a move against Robbie Maggiulli in a battle between two of his starting freshmen.
Later, he gets a look of satisfaction as he watches the team cap practice with laps to “Born to be Wild,” the Cavos’ traditional entrance song, followed by jumping rope and calisthenics in the dark to “We Are the Champions” in a ritual that is more than 30 years old.
